I added some cinnamon to mine to mimic the traditional Mexican hot chocolate I love. I usually make a batch of the mix, put it in an airtight tin, and store it for a month or more in the pantry.

Homemade Spicy Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

Ingredients for Easy Hot Chocolate Mix:

  • 1 cup powdered whole milk
  • ½ cup Truvía granulated sweetener
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ancho chile powder, or more to taste

How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the powdered milk, sweetener, cocoa powder, cornstarch, cinnamon, and chile powder. Whisk until well combined. Store in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark place until ready to use.
  2. To serve, place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the mix in a microwave-safe cup. Add hot water, stirring to blend. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir to blend. (Alternatively, use cool tap water and microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.)
